Electrification in Glen WaverleyThree gas appliances, and a roof that can replace them
A typical original Glen Waverley home runs three things on gas: a ducted heater in the roof, a storage hot water tank on the side wall, and a cooktop in the kitchen. The rebuilds next door usually carry gas ducted heating with separate splits for cooling. Either way, the house is paying a gas supply charge every day for appliances that each have an electric replacement which costs less to run.
Home electrification is replacing those appliances in a sensible order, with the electrical side ready for all of them. On an original single-storey home the walk-through roof space makes ducted reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts straightforward. A heat pump takes over the hot water, induction replaces the cooktop, and the long single hip roof carries enough solar to run much of it in the daytime. On a two-storey rebuild, the ground floor ducts can sit in the floor void between levels, and that is where a Braemar Dominator on the existing ducts is sometimes the honest answer.
We start every plan at the switchboard, because an original board from the 1970s often cannot carry the new loads. We service Glen Waverley from Somerville, about 50 minutes away, and the plan sits alongside the rest of our Glen Waverley work.
