Electrification in OfficerSome streets are already there
Officer has two kinds of house when it comes to gas. Homes built through the 2010s mostly have a gas ducted heater in the roof, gas hot water and a gas cooktop, with an evaporative cooler or a single split for summer. Homes on the newest streets were built with no gas connection at all, so heating, hot water and cooking are already electric. Home electrification Officer style is mostly about getting the first group to where the second group started.
The good news is that the houses are young. Switchboards are modern, roofs are simple tile or Colorbond, and the gas appliances are not hidden in awkward places. Many homes are single phase and some newer builds are three phase, and either can usually carry reverse cycle, a heat pump and induction once the board has been checked. The ducted gas heater is replaced with reverse cycle on new R1.5 insulated ducts, even in a 2010s home, because gas ducting was never sized or insulated for cooling.
For the all-electric homes, the job is the other half: solar to cover a bigger evening load, a battery, a charger, and extra splits where the builder fitted only one or two. Either way we draw one plan at the first inspection, alongside our other work in Officer.
