Electrification in ParkdaleThree gas appliances, and an extension none of them planned for
A typical older Parkdale home on gas has three appliances to deal with: a ducted gas heater, a gas storage hot water tank on the side wall and a gas cooktop in the kitchen. Many of those homes have since been extended at the back, so the heater is undersized, the hot water runs short and the new family room may already have a split system bolted on to fill the gap. The newer two-storey rebuilds have a different mix, often gas ducted heating with splits for cooling.
Electrifying the house means replacing all of that with electric appliances that cost less to run, and doing it in an order that makes sense. We start at the switchboard, because an original board may not carry reverse cycle, a heat pump, an induction cooktop and an EV charger without an upgrade. Then we work out which appliance goes first, usually whichever is closest to failing.
The result is a house that finally heats the extension properly, stops paying for a gas connection it no longer uses and can run largely from its own roof. Most requests for home electrification Parkdale owners send us come down to the same thing: one plan from one company, staged to suit the budget. See what else we do in Parkdale.
