EV charging in BerwickTwo cars, a double garage and a big roof
Berwick is close to the ideal suburb for a home charger. The estate homes are four and five bedroom family houses, many of them double storey, with a double garage, a modern switchboard and a large roof. Households here often run two cars and drive a fair distance each week, which is why more of the Berwick solar systems we design now include a charger from the start.
The install is usually short. The board is often on or near the garage wall, so the cable run is a few metres rather than across the house. What changes the job is supply. Several Berwick streets have three-phase power, and on those homes an 11kW or 22kW charger is possible if the car accepts it. On single-phase, 7kW on a 32A circuit adds roughly 40km of range for every hour plugged in, which is plenty for overnight top-ups.
The bigger question for most Berwick owners is where the power comes from. With panels across a two-storey roof and a battery in the garage, the car can soak up the midday surplus instead of exporting it for a few cents. That is how we set up EV chargers Berwick households use daily. More on our work across Berwick.
