Electrification in BerwickSome homes start at gas. Some start at zero.
Home electrification Berwick projects come in two shapes. In Timbarra, Brentwood Park and the other estates built through the 1990s and 2000s, the house usually has a ducted gas heater in the roof, gas hot water and often a gas cooktop. Those are the swaps: reverse cycle for the heater, a heat pump for the hot water, induction for the cooktop.
The newest streets were built without a gas connection, so the house is already electric. The work there is about running it well: solar across a large two-storey roof, a battery for the evening and an EV charger in the garage. A five-bedroom all-electric home we fitted in Berwick drew almost nothing from the grid on a 35 degree day, one of the hottest of the year.
Two-storey homes need more care on the heating. Ducts we can reach are replaced with new R1.5 insulated ducts. Where the ducts to the ground floor run between the floors and cannot be reached, a Braemar Dominator takes the gas heater's place and keeps them. We decide that at the inspection, along with the board and the phase. See our Berwick page for more.
